This is one of the most scenic rides around in the San Juan mountains, accessible from Rico / Telluride or from Durango using the Bolam Pass Rd

I found it to be not as technical as twin sisters > EMT, both on the climb and the descent. Although it had about 4000 ft of climbing, it wasn’t as technical as I anticipated.
There are few places to filter along the way, on the road up there a few streams you cross. At the start of the Blackhawk Pass trail there is a lake and there is a stream on the either side of the Blackhawk Pass at the top.
We parked at Hermosa Creek trailhead, biked up Bolam Pass Rd to the start of the Blackhawk trail.
It’s a beautiful climb, epic views and we got really great weather.
