Bighorn Canyon Trail, Escalante UT

We stopped in Escalante, UT on our road trip from Nevada to Colorado and absolutely loved this town.

We only had a half day today so we chose a mellow spot canyon to explore on our way out. There are a lot more slots down the Hole In The Wall Road (Zebra, Peekaboo and others)

I highly recommend dropping into the visitor center to check for road conditions and check out the history of this area. The visitor center staff was extremely friendly and helped us find the best option for hiking and gave us a ton of history of this area. There is a movie that played in the visitor center that we loved.

We loved this hike, we thought it was easy to follow based on the AllTrails map.

The description mentioned that it wasn’t dog friendly but we asked at the visitor center and they mentioned that dogs are allowed and would do well in this canyon.

Our pup loved it. We explored the left fork until we got to a narrow section that she couldn’t have made it up without a rope and harness and then went back and explored the right fork which goes forever.

We ended up doing around 7 miles.

Highly recommend starting before it gets hot or finishing at sunset. It’s a magical place.

Some of our fav spots in town:
Outdoor gear, coffee and great food. Fam friendly.
