Heading to NYC and would love to know the best hikes near the city, there are over 50 listed on AllTrails but we’d love to get a shorter list.
Here are the best hikes listed in All Trails and best trails in Central Park
1. Central Park East and West Drive Loop
Manhattan | 6.1 mi | Easy
This one’s a classic for a reason. You’ll circle through rolling meadows, shaded paths, and the Ramble—aka Central Park’s wild heart. Expect skyline views and plenty of people-watching.
2. Brooklyn Bridge Walk via Manhattan
Manhattan to Brooklyn | 2.4 mi | Easy
It’s touristy, yes—but also iconic. Catch sunrise or sunset for the best views (and fewer crowds). Pro tip: bring a few bucks for the drink vendors lining the bridge on hot days.
3. Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir Running Path
Central Park | 1.7 mi | Easy
Flat and scenic, this loop gives you skyline reflections on the water and a steady stream of joggers. It’s a great quick loop if you’re short on time but want a nature break.
4. High Line Park
West Side Manhattan | 1.2 mi | Easy
Not your typical trail—this old rail line turned elevated park features wildflowers, public art, and epic views of the city. Expect it to be busy, especially on weekends.
5. Hudson River Greenway
Battery Park to Riverside Park | 5.3 mi | Easy
Ride it, walk it, or skate it—this paved riverside path is perfect for a long urban adventure. Bonus points for checking out Little Island along the way.
6. North Woods
Central Park | 3.8 mi | Moderate
Craving a deeper nature vibe? Head north in Central Park. The North Woods area feels a lot more remote than it is, with shady trails and tucked-away spots to escape the crowd.
7. Prospect Park Loop
Brooklyn | 3.7 mi | Easy
Prospect Park is Brooklyn’s version of Central Park, with wooded ravines, big open fields, and even horseback riding. Don’t miss the Vale of Cashmere.
8. Alley Pond Park Loop
Queens | 3.2 mi | Moderate
One of the best forest escapes in Queens, with a mix of paved and dirt trails that’ll have you forgetting you’re still in the five boroughs.
9. Inwood Hill & Fort Tryon Parks
Upper Manhattan | ~3.6 mi combined | Easy to Moderate
This combo gives you river views, forest trails, bald eagle spotting opportunities (seriously), and even medieval art at The Met Cloisters.
10. Governor’s Island Loop
NY Harbor | 2.1 mi | Easy
Hop the ferry and wander this car-free island with waterfront paths, hammock groves, and Statue of Liberty views. Best enjoyed with a picnic and some extra time to explore.
